Residents were able to evacuate from a house fire Wednesday night on Charing Cross in Canandaigua. According to the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department, there was an active fire in the garage and heavy smoke coming from the home. Four people and a dog were able to evacuate from the home safely. No injuries were reported. Firefighters said the fire did not spread from the garage. The garage door appears to be damaged, and what appears to be a lawn mower sustained heavy damage. The Ontario County Emergency Management Office is still investigating the cause of the fire.
