Five people were displaced after a fire at an apartment building on Webster Avenue in Syracuse on Thursday morning.
The Syracuse Fire Department responded to the fire at 238 Webster Ave. around 7:15 a.m. The department said off-duty firefighters from Station 8 noticed smoke coming from the house and they alerted on-duty staff.
Arriving crews saw flames coming from the second-floor window. Firefighters searched the building to see if anyone was still inside, but noted that all of its residents had evacuated. Officials said the fire was put out in 35 minutes.
Crews remained at the scene for two hours, clearing smoke, cleaning up and assisting investigators. The apartment sustained fire, smoke and water damage. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. There were no injuries reported in the incident.
