Firefighters in Onondaga County put out first electric car fire in IHOP parking lot

PHOTOS: The Moyers Corners Fire Department felt the curse of modern technology Sunday morning when it arrived to a first for their crew: an electric car fire.

Several of the crewโ€™s cars and engines arrived to the parking lot of the IHOP in Clay just after 8 a.m. on October 12. Once they extinguished the fire, the crew stayed there for longer than usual to cool the vehicle down, because the batteries in electric cars can reignite even after the fire is put out. At the end, the whole mission took two hours.

The fire remains under investigation by the Onondaga County Fire Investigation Unit.
