The Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Company has been awarded over $142,000 in federal funding, the department announced on Saturday. The money was reportedly administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The fire company said they will use the funding — a total of $142,400 in federal funds and an additional $7,120 local match — to buy 24 new complete sets of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)/Turnout Gear. Each set includes a jacket, pants, suspenders, two hoods, structural gloves, a helmet and boots, and will provide enhanced protection against heat, flames and other dangerous conditions.
“This grant is a tremendous benefit to our rural community,” said Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Company Treasurer Brian McIntosh. “This equipment will directly improve our firefighter safety and operational readiness.”
Caroga Lake, located in the southern Adirondack Mountains in Fulton County, is home to over 1,200 residents.
