VIDEO: Fourteen people were hospitalized, including a firefighter taken in critical condition, after a fire spread through multifamily homes in the Bronx. Flames broke out at the multifamily home on Devoe Terrace between Webb Ave and W. 190th St. just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday. It quickly spread to two other multifamily homes and reached five alarms. This fire spread fiercely and there were lithium batteries used for motorized devices involved — those types of fires spread very quickly and are very stubborn, which is consistent with what firefighters were seeing Sunday night. Firefighters were attacking the flames trying to get it under control. Twelve firefighters, including at least one member of FDNY EMS, and two civilians are in the hospital. One of those firefighters is in critical condition. The other injuries are not considered life threatening. Neighbors say everyone got out of these homes alive, thanks to other neighbors pulling them to safety, including at least two people who needed help because they rely on scooters and walkers to get around.
