To conserve water, Onondaga County firefighters tap creek to take down flames

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A fire broke out at an Action Top Soil building in Minoa, which is used for office space and some storage for the garden product company.

The town was recently impacted by a water main break, with the local water authority placing it on a list of towns asked to conserve water. A major fire, like this one, requires plenty of water, but rather than tapping into the villageโ€™s supply, firefighters got water from nearby Limestone Creek, as well as tankers from other fire departments.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t look like weโ€™re going to run out [of water] anytime soon,โ€ William Brazill, the mayor of Minoa, assured.

According to the Onondaga County Fire Department, the fire was too dangerous to enter when the fire department arrived. Crews began extinguishing the building and protected nearby exposures to heavy equipment such as loaders and skid steers.

No injuries were reported, and nobody was inside the building at the time.
