VIDEO: The Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Marathon Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash that landed in the river on Route 11, north of the Village of Marathon, on Monday.
According to the release, dispatch reported that the SUV was floating in the river and that the occupant was attempting to remove himself. The incident began on the I-81 Southbound off-ramp. The vehicle crossed Route 11 from there, struck the guardrail and launched into the Tioughnioga River.
Marathon Fire responded with its air boat to assist with the water rescue and vehicle removal. The Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps evaluated the driver at the scene and determined that transportation to the hospital was unnecessary. New York State Police and Ron’s Towing also assisted at the scene.
