VIDEO: Smoke is still lingering at the site of a massive fire in Gorham. The flames initially broke out on Saturday at the 57,000-square-foot Eco Operations warehouse on Dewey Avenue in Ontario County.
Hundreds of firefighters fought the blaze for hours into Sunday morning, and the Town of Gorham says the building had hazardous materials inside — including hand sanitizer.
News10NBC headed back out to the site on Sunday as spill crews worked to cleanup. State Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan said in a statement that the hand sanitizer in the building was expired. He also said the owner ignored town codes and state laws, lacked a fire suppression system, was not licensed to store the materials, and attempted to illegally dump waste.
News10NBC crews drove back to Gorham Monday to find smoke still filling the air at the site of the fire. Chris Fortune spoke to a resident who lives about 500 feet from where the fire started; he walked him through what he and his wife saw as they were coming back into town.
