All students safe after minor fire, evacuation at Mount Morris Elementary

A small fire broke out Wednesday on the roof of Mount Morris Elementary School, prompting a full evacuation of the building, according to school officials. No injuries were reported, and classes are expected to resume Thursday.

Superintendent Greg Bump said the fire started as a result of construction work being performed on the schoolโ€™s roof. Contractors and maintenance staff acted quickly to pull the fire alarm and begin extinguishing the flames while ensuring everyone evacuated safely.

Students and staff were relocated to the Genesee River Restaurant, where they waited until they could be reunited with their families.

โ€œI want to thank the entire Mount Morris community for all of their help and support today to ensure that everyone was safe and reunited with their families,โ€ the superintendent said in a statement.

The Mount Morris Fire Department responded immediately, along with the Mount Morris Police Department, Mount Morris Emergency Medical Services and the Livingston County Sheriffโ€™s Office.
