On Jan. 7, AFR was dispatched to a commercial warehouse located at 1803 Sixth Street in response to reports of a structure fire at the location. When units arrived at the scene, they reported a large building with working fire conditions. Crews set up an aerial ladder for defensive fire operations. The fire was brought under control within 24 minutes.
A total of 13 units were dispatched, and AFR advised that damage to the structure was mostly contained to the east side of the structure. The structure was a total loss and had significant collapses throughout. Crews remained on scene all morning to put out hotspots.
According to AFR, the structure had faced multiple fires over the last few years due to homeless encampments. AFR reported no injuries to civilians or firefighters. They say the cause is most likely due to an exterior homeless encampment that spread to the interior.
