Perth Amboy Secures $1 Million State Appropriation for a Fire Substation

The City of Perth Amboy is receiving $1 million in the fiscal โ€™26 state budget to fund the acquisition of land for a new fire substation. This funding comes in addition to the $500,000 received in the previous state budget, secured with the help of the stateโ€™s District 19 legislators. The new substation, to be called Fire Station 2, will offer a hub for the Perth Amboy Fire Departmentโ€™s enhanced operations in the eastern portions of the city, including the Waterfront, Harbortown, and the Marina District. Station 2 will carry the alternate title of Memorial Firehouse in honor of the 20 line of duty deaths the fire department has sustained since 1881. โ€œWe have been working at building a substation in this region for some time now,โ€ Perth Amboy Fire Chief Edward Mullen said. โ€œOnce constructed, it will allow us to cut response times in portions of our city even further.โ€ Station 2 will be staffed 24/7 with eight firefighters.
