The City of Perth Amboy is receiving $1 million in the fiscal โ26 state budget to fund the acquisition of land for a new fire substation. This funding comes in addition to the $500,000 received in the previous state budget, secured with the help of the stateโs District 19 legislators. The new substation, to be called Fire Station 2, will offer a hub for the Perth Amboy Fire Departmentโs enhanced operations in the eastern portions of the city, including the Waterfront, Harbortown, and the Marina District. Station 2 will carry the alternate title of Memorial Firehouse in honor of the 20 line of duty deaths the fire department has sustained since 1881. โWe have been working at building a substation in this region for some time now,โ Perth Amboy Fire Chief Edward Mullen said. โOnce constructed, it will allow us to cut response times in portions of our city even further.โ Station 2 will be staffed 24/7 with eight firefighters.
