VIDEO: Plane makes emergency landing in northwest Las Vegas

A plane made an emergency landing in northwest Las Vegas Sunday morning, according to officials from Harry Reid International Airport. FOX5 obtained video of the landing. Officials say a Cessna 172 Skyhawk departed from North Las Vegas Airport and made an emergency landing on Grand Canyon Drive, south of Tropical Parkway. The man who sent that video, Larry Sommers, told FOX 5 he missed seeing the plane fly by his house by mere seconds.

“I took some trash out to me backside and literally missed it by eight seconds. I took the trash out, went into the garage, the plane comes by and lands,” Sommers said. After some neighbors mentioned seeing the plane go by on their security camera, Sommers went to check his camera and sure enough, the plane went right by.

“I’ve listened to the audio many a times and watched the video over and over. You don’t even hear the tires touched on. There’s no squeal of the tires. There’s no braking that you hear or anything that you would normally hear in an aircraft. It just goes by and lands,” Sommers said. Sommers is one of many neighbors who didn’t hear the plane land, some people told FOX 5 they didn’t even know the emergency landing happened in the first place.
