The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) is mourning the unexpected passing of one of its own. Battalion chief Ryan Rizzuto, a respected leader and longtime member of the district, passed away Sunday night while off duty. In a statement, TMFPD shared that the news has deeply shaken the organization. โOur entire TMFPD family is grieving this unexpected loss,โ the district said, emphasizing the profound impact Chief Rizzuto had on colleagues and the community he served.
Out of respect for the family, TMFPD is not releasing additional details at this time. The district is asking both the community and the media to allow space for loved ones and personnel to process the tragedy privately. Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue briefly tapped both the Reno and Sparks fire departments on Sunday night to help field calls while crews stood down and attended a personnel meeting.
