Red Cross volunteers respond to 32 Southern Nevada house fires in July

VIDEO: Volunteers were deployed to help 140 people displaced by 32 house fires last month, according to the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada. Red Cross leaders say these figures underscore the risk of home fires during the summer. “Las Vegas summers bring extreme heat and dry conditions that can turn a small spark into a fast-moving fire,” executive director Rachel Flanigan said in a statement. “We encourage everyone to take simple precautions โ€” from checking electrical cords to avoiding overloaded outlets โ€” to help keep their families safe.” The organization says it has responded to nearly 175 home fires this year, helping more than 750 people with relief like temporary shelter, emotional support and recovery planning.
