PHOTOS: Leaders at UMC Children’s Hospital recently honored a North Las Vegas Fire crew and a local couple for their heroic efforts in saving a toddler who nearly drowned. On July 18, 2025, Kaylynn Brown discovered her 17-month-old son, Ozzie, face down and unresponsive in their swimming pool. Brown and Ozzie’s father immediately called 911 and began performing CPR, a skill they had both been trained in. They continued for two minutes until North Las Vegas Fire Rescue 53 arrived.
“Ozzie’s story is one of survival but it’s also a reminder. A reminder that awareness, preparation, and community save lives,” Brown said. The fire crew took over CPR and managed to restore Ozzie’s pulse before transporting him to UMC Children’s Hospital. Ozzie spent 11 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit before being discharged.
