New truck to help save lives during swift water rescues in North Las Vegas

VIDEO: The North Las Vegas Fire Department is unveiling a new piece of equipment that officials hope will help save lives in swift water. Special Operations Battalion Chief John Wright says their new Heavy Rescue Truck means the department’s Technical Rescue Team will be fully operational.

The team can respond to all types of calls, including swift water rescues, rope rescues, confined space rescues and trench rescues. Wright says before the new truck, they’d have to call on surrounding municipalities for assistance when heavy rescue calls came in, like the City of Las Vegas. “That was a pretty considerable distance to come up into our area, which is time, and time is really a factor when it comes to some of these rescues,” Wright says. “This will give us the ability to dispatch straight out of this station within North Las Vegas.” He says the truck is strategically parked at Fire Station 52, near Losee Rd. and Craig Rd., near the city’s largest flood channel.
