PHOTOS: A dramatic rescue unfolded early Monday morning as crews worked to save a horse from a swimming pool near Thomas Creek Road in south Reno. Washoe County Animal Services received an emergency call shortly after 3 a.m. when the horse, which did not belong to the homeowner, fell into the pool after mistaking the cover for solid ground.
Field manager Robert Wooster, along with Animal Services Officers Trevor Maloy and Roland Albertson, responded to the scene to assist the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and Least Resistance Training Concepts (LRTC). The rescue operation was conducted in the dark, with rescuers working swiftly to attach technical large animal rescue equipment to the exhausted horse. “The horse was so exhausted, it was lateral in the pool,” said a rescuer, noting the urgency of the situation as they held the horse’s head above water to prevent drowning.
