VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Athletics will have to pay to cover facilities and accommodations for Las Vegas police officers and firefighters at the new baseball stadium on the Strip. A development agreement between the A’s and Clark County includes public facilities for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and the Clark County Fire Department, according to a copy included in a Zoning Commission meeting agenda for Wednesday.
Under the agreement, the A’s will pay the county about $1.15 million to buy a fire rescue vehicle, a hazardous material engine and three utility vehicles, plus related equipment. A fire department post will have to be built on the ground level of the parking garage for the ballpark or in an alternate, mutually agreed-upon location, the agreement states. The post must be able to fit a fire engine or a rescue unit with paramedic services. Fire access lanes will be built along Tropicana and Reno avenues to give fire engines access to the ballpark.
For LVMPD, the A’s will build a game day operations center, or GDOC, to observe the field and stands. There will also be a transport area for police vehicles and a holding area to detain suspects. The A’s have agreed to donate more than $82,000 to the LVMPD Foundation for holding center and radio equipment, plus six new police bicycles.
