VIDEO: The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a crash Thursday morning involving Kearney Police and Buffalo County Sheriffโs Office patrol vehicles. Dramatic surveillance video obtained by our media partner News Channel Nebraska captured the incident.
According to the Kearney Police Department, around 7 a.m. KPD officers were dispatched to a serious medical emergency call in northeast Kearney. While responding to the medical emergency, a KPD patrol vehicle was involved in an accident with a Buffalo County Sheriffโs Office (BCSO) marked patrol vehicle at the intersection of North Railroad Street and K Avenue. Both vehicles were going east on North Railroad Street.
Following impact, the KPD vehicle struck a curb and rolled before coming to rest on its driver side. The KPD officer was trapped inside and required extrication with the assistance of fellow officers, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department personnel and CHI Good Samaritan Emergency Medical Services.
KPD said the officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where he was treated and released. The deputy involved was not injured. The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting the accident investigation.
Kearney Police said they are grateful the officer did not sustain serious injuries, the deputy was not injured and for the quick and professional response of area first responders. KVFD, CHI Good Samaritan Emergency personnel and KPD and BCSO officers worked together to provide emergency medical care at the scene. KPD also thanked NSP for their help in this accident investigation as well to the many bystanders that quickly rendered aid following the accident.
