Sidney apartment fire sends one person to the hospital

One person was hospitalized and a neighbor was displaced after a fire broke out Wednesday evening at an apartment complex in Sidney. The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department and Sidney Police Department responded to the fire at Western Heritage on 11th Avenue around 7:21 p.m.

According to an initial investigation, the fire began in the kitchen of one unit. The resident was able to escape the building before being transported by ambulance to Sidney Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation. Their condition has not been released. Once inside the apartment, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within two minutes, preventing further spread to neighboring units.

A neighbor reported being asleep when someone knocked on her door, urging her to evacuate as smoke began to fill her apartment. Both the resident and the neighbor have since been displaced due to damage suffered in the fire. The Red Cross was called to help assist the residents.
