Semi hauling recycled metals catches fire in west Lincoln

VIDEO: A semi hauling recycled metals caught fire in west Lincoln on Wednesday. Emergency crews responded to the area near North 2nd and Q streets just before 1:40 p.m. Videos submitted by 10/11 viewers showed firefighters spraying water on an open-top semi trailer in the American Car Dealers parking lot.

LFR Battalion Chief Aaron Pospisil said the trailer was fully engulfed when crews arrived. Crews initially used a hose line to attack the blaze but had to switch to an overhead approach to reach the flames. The fire was out in about five to six minutes. Investigators believe an airbag canister sparked the fire. The trailer, valued at $95,000, may be a total loss pending inspection. LFR said the trailer was carrying an estimated $15,000–$20,000 worth of recycled metals. LFR received no reports of injuries.
