Ponca Hills Volunteer Fire Department hosts mass casualty drill

VIDEO: Some first responders were preparing for the worst on Thursday. The Ponca Hills Volunteer Fire Department simulated a bus crash which caused a fake mass casualty event. KETV NewsWatch 7 photojournalist Jared Myers was there to document their training. “When you have an incident that impacts a lot of people, you need a lot of help to come in on the incident,” said assistant fire chief Joel Sax.

Firefighter Scott Bowen said it was good practice for them to handle not just individual care, but also coordinating with other departments. “When they talk about trauma, they talk about the golden hour. You need to be in a hospital, preferably a trauma center, within an hour of the injury,” said Sax.
