PHOTOS: Over a dozen agencies were battling a 45-acre grass fire in the Nebraska Panhandle on Wednesday. Banner County Volunteer Fire and Rescue said the fire began in the eastern part of the county on Tuesday. The fire held overnight within the established containment lines. Banner County Fire stayed on scene overnight, and additional fire crews arrived Wednesday morning.
As of an 8 a.m. update, the fire is 60% contained and has not increased in size. Crews plan to reinforce containment lines, patrol the fire perimeter and handline construction across the bottom of the canyon in the most inaccessible terrain. Agencies from Banner County, Lyman, Scottsbluff, Gering, Bridgeport, Minatare/Melbeta, Sidney, Potter, McGrew and Bayard responded to the fire. Region 22 Emergency Management and the SEAT plane stationed in Chadron also assisted.
