Lincoln Fire and Rescue determined a spontaneous combustion of reloading materials caused a fire in northeast Lincoln early Thursday. Firefighters were called to a home near 44th and Adams streets just after 2:45 a.m. on the report of a home on fire. LFR said a smoke alarm alerted the homeowner who was asleep, and they evacuated safely with their dog.
Battalion Chief Aaron Pospisil confirmed to 10/11 that live ammo was going off inside the burning structure as crews tried to douse the flames. Crews were able to knock down the fire within 20 minutes of their arrival. Pospisil stated that there were no injuries and that the homeowner will need to relocate. The house is considered a total loss. Damage to its contents is estimated at $50,000.
