House fire sends one to hospital in southeast Lincoln

One person was taken to the hospital after a fire in southeast Lincoln Thursday morning. Lincoln Fire and Rescue was called to a home in the area of 84th Street and Old Cheney Road at 9:45 a.m. The occupant of the home was able to evacuate with their pets, two dogs and a cat. Fire Captain Andy Evans said crews found a fire near the furnace room and heavy smoke. The flames were contained to the basement and knocked down in about 15 minutes.

A 10/11 reporter at the scene said smoke was not visible, but the area smelled of burnt plastic. Evans said one occupant of the home was taken to the hospital. According to LFR, the fire started due to a failed humidifier, and the total damages to the structure totaled to $80,000.
