House fire in northeast Omaha displaces residents

The Omaha Fire Department responded to a house fire Tuesday afternoon that displaced residents. According to OFD, crews were dispatched to a home near 62nd and Fort Street at about 2 p.m. and saw smoke coming from the eaves of the house. Crews found the homeowner spraying water on the backside of the house and shed where โ€œextensive fire damage could be seen,โ€ but no flames were found at the time.

However, firefighters found an active fire in the attic and were able to extinguish it. No one was injured. The cause of the fire was determined to be an unattended grill. OFD estimated the damage to the home to be about $27,000. The Red Cross was called in to assist the residents who were displaced.
