Grand Island Fire Department celebrates firefighters new promotions, and fire truck

VIDEO: The Grand Island Fire Department welcomed the arrival of its new aerial platform tower and celebrated the promotion of several department members Wednesday. Community members, family, and city officials gathered at GIFD Station 1 for the ceremony.

โ€œAttention Grand Island Fire Department, this is a special announcement,โ€ a message announced over the department scanner. โ€œG3 โ€” Firefighter/Paramedic Seth Ross, Firefighter/EMT Jared Stuzman, and Firefighter Jason Selecman to captain. Captain Ross, Stuzman, and Selecman, please deeply and effectively lead your crew to respond to the needs of our residents and visitors in Grand Island. Congratulations on your promotions.โ€

โ€œWe also promoted one battalion chief, and that was Ryan Seaman,โ€ Fire Chief Cory Schmidt said. Schmidt noted each position required going through a rigorous and competitive process. โ€œThrough that process, we ended up promoting these four amazing individuals,โ€ he said. โ€œTheyโ€™re going to do great things for the Grand Island Fire Department and, ultimately, the residents of Grand Island. Weโ€™re very proud of them.โ€

The four promoted firefighters will primarily work out of Station 1 but will serve across all four department stations, Schmidt said. โ€œThese four promoted are a great representation of myself,โ€ he said. โ€œWe look for key characteristics in our leaders, and I think one of the biggest is the ability to develop trust within their crews. These four gentlemen have earned the trust of their crew members and their coworkers.โ€
