VIDEO: The Omaha Fire Department was called to a fire in a building late Wednesday. The fire started shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 11th and Locust streets, near Carter Lake. According to police dispatch, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
In an update Thursday morning, OFD says crews saw flames coming from the roof of the building when they arrived. It was unsecured and vacant at the time of the fire. The fire was extinguished in about 35 minutes, according to the report. An investigation into its cause is underway. “Evidence of squatters was present inside and outside of the building,” the report states. Damage is estimated at $75,000.
