Fire crews responded to a hay bale fire south of North Platte Monday afternoon. Firefighters were dispatched to South Dairy Road at around 12:15 p.m. for a report of a grass fire. Several rural volunteer fire departments are on scene working to put out the fire.
Maywood Rural Fire Department Fire Chief Greg Blank said a hay bale caught on fire and burned less than an acre. A Red Flag Warning was in effect until mid-evening Monday. Temperatures at the scene were in the low 80s, with winds gusting up to 28 miles per hour.
