VIDEO: Multiple volunteer fire departments responded Wednesday to a fire at the Hughes Brothers Inc. manufacturing facility in Seward. Photos from the scene showed flames coming from the building. The fire was reported around 10:15 a.m., and Hughes Brothers management said they believe it was sparked by welding work being done by an outside contractor.
Roughly 250 employees were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames within about an hour. While one building remains out of operation, Hughes Brothers said other buildings on the campus were not affected and will continue operations. Volunteer fire departments from Seward, Staplehurst, Goehner, Milford, Garland and Tamora helped put out the fire.
