Emergency crews contain anhydrous ammonia leak near Hastings

Crews have contained the anhydrous ammonia leak shortly before 6 p.m. Monday near Hastings. People at plant first reported the leak shortly after noon at Macrosource, which was previously known as Gavilon Fertilizer. Adams County Emergency Manager Ron Pughes says there was one injury related to the leak and is considered not life-threatening.

According to Pughes, workers at the nearby Heartwell Renewables plant were recommended to evacuate because there is an odor in that area. Officials warn there may still be some residual odors in the area, but the immediate hazard has been resolved.

Emergency officials credited the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Hastings Rural Fire, Hastings Hazmat, Glenvil Fire, the Salvation Army and the State Fire Marshal’s Office for their coordinated response.
