Videos show plane narrowly avoid homes while crashing in Florida neighborhood

New video shows the moment a small plane crashed in a residential neighborhood in Pembroke Pines, narrowly missing homes and cars as it went down. The doorbell camera video shows the Cessna Skymaster crashing near Southwest 14th Street and 68th Boulevard at around 8:10 p.m. Sunday. The noise of the engine can be heard as the plane slams into a tree before hitting the ground.

National Transportation Safety Board officials said the plane was on approach to nearby North Perry Airport when it crashed about a mile short of the runway. Officials said a pilot and three people were aboard the plane when it went down. All of them made it out and were hospitalized.

Authorities haven’t released the conditions or identities of those who were on board but sources told NBC6 that two of the patients are minors, ages 16 and 13. The boyfriend of the 16-year-old told NBC6 that the family had minor cuts and bruises and is doing OK. “It was nerve-wracking, obviously. Nobody wants to hear that their significant other is in a crash of some sort,” Ethan Wolfe said.

Another video provided by a neighbor showed the moments in the immediate aftermath of the crash, as the plane is still smoking while people gather around. Neighbors said they were shaken when the plane crashed right in their yards, but feel lucky it didn’t land on top of a home. “The blessing in this is that nobody was killed and that’s primarily because the plane didn’t blow up,” one resident said.

Federal Aviation Administration officials said the cause of the crash is being investigated.
