VIDEOS: Production halted after fire at Novelis plant in New York

PHOTOS: A Novelis company spokesperson has commented on the fire that broke out at the aluminum plant in Oswego on Sept. 17. โ€œJust after 10:00 p.m., a fire at our hot mill was reported, and everyone was safely evacuated and accounted for. Just after 2:00 AM the majority of the fire had been extinguished, with the bulk of fire departmentsโ€™ efforts focused on the roof. Novelis is extremely grateful for all the first responders who acted swiftly last night and for the outpouring of community care and support. We are thankful nobody was hurt. The cause and impacts of the fire are still under investigation.”

They do not expect this incident to negatively impact employment at the plant. In a Facebook post by the Minetto Fire Department, they said that they worked alongside about 24 other departments in the county to fight the fire for nearly 13 hours. Novelis is the largest recycler of aluminum in the world. Their Oswego plant is the companyโ€™s first U.S. operation, and is the largest wholly-owned fabrication facility in North America.
