VIDEOS: Moment Missouri house explodes caught on camera

PHOTOS: Doorbell camera video shows the exact moment a home north St. Louis County exploded Monday morning. The intense blast sent three people to the hospital. The video shows the explosion on the left side of the home. In just a matter of seconds, the fire blooms upwards into smoke, and the neighbor’s front door, garage and windows are blown out from the force.

A 5 On Your Side photographer captured firefighters hard at work throughout the day. Crews were actively dumping water and climbing over wreckage. 5 On Your Side field crews spoke with neighbors and officials about the explosion, capturing first response efforts and various shots of the damage. More than 20 homes were damaged in the neighborhood and surrounding area.

From across the Mississippi, Pat Schwarte from Alton, Illinois, captured a wide photo of the dark plume of smoke after the explosion. Neighbors closer to the explosion said the ominous cloud had them worried and asking questions as to what happened.
