A massive five-alarm fire devastated a strip of businesses in University Heights, leaving at least six storefronts destroyed. This marks the second tragedy for these business owners, which were looted during the COVID pandemic five years ago. Jessica Bentancourt, owner of the Bronx Optical for six years, was in tears as she watched firefighters battle the flames. She says she plans to rebuild and stay resilient, despite the loss. The FDNY was expected to be on scene for hours as it worked to fully contain the fire.
