PHOTOS: Firefighters from multiple counties have been working overnight and into the morning to tackle a huge blaze at a sawmill in South Annville Township. The fire was reported at Weaber Lumber, located on 1231 Mount Wilson Road, just after 10 p.m. Monday by a maintenance worker at the property. Photos posted by the Neversink Fire Company, one of the departments on scene, show flames billowing from the structure. Crews have been on site for over nine hours, and Lawn Fire Company Chief Dylan Wilson told CBS 21 that crews are still working to get the fire under control, though firefighters are making progress.
Throughout the night, firefighters used 1.1 million of gallons of water from a nearby pond. Come Tuesday morning, crews were getting more water from tankers from neighboring counties, the chief said. Wilson explained that the material that burns inside a building is called “fire load,” and because this mill is full of so much lumber, it makes for one of the largest “fire loads” in the state—making it difficult to contain. No injuries have been reported, and the chief said the cause of the fire is still unknown, but Pennsylvania State Police will investigate.
