VIDEOS: Crews battle massive pallet fire at Kansas recycling facility

Crews are monitoring hot spots following a fire at Evergreen Recycling near 53rd Street and Broadway Avenue in Park City. The fire was visible on KSNโ€™s Downtown Wichita SkyView Camera shortly after it began at around 10:45 p.m.

The Sedgwick County Fire Department said the fire was contained to the pile of pallets where it started. Sedgwick County Fire Department Battalion Chief Nick Becker said the fire was smaller because there was less material to catch fire. Rain also helped slow the fire but did not put it out. โ€œThereโ€™s a lot less material on site here, so that did help a little bit, but itโ€™s still challenging for us. There are access problems and things like that,โ€ he said.

Officials are investigating whether lightning caused the fire. It is the third fire to burn at the site in three years. The last was in June 2024, which lasted several days. A fire also broke out in October 2022 and burned for a week.
