VIDEOS: Car catches fire inside parking deck at North Carolina apartments

Multiple cars were damaged by a fire in a NoDa neighborhood parking deck early Thursday, fire officials said. The Charlotte Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the parking deck on Philemon Avenue around 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found a car fully engulfed in flames on the parking deck’s third floor, with fire spreading to multiple vehicles. Smoke was coming from the parking deck. It took a team of 30 firefighters about 40 minutes to get the flames under control. No one was hurt during the incident, and the Charlotte Fire Department confirmed no victims were inside. No residents were displaced by the fire. Charlotte Fire said 14 vehicles were damaged by the heat and flames, and the parking deck itself has suffered structural damage. The fire was accidental, having started in the engine compartment of a parked vehicle. Charlotte Fire said the estimated property loss is more than $170,000.
