VIDEO: Pallet manufacturer in New York burns for seven hours, crews fight with lack of hydrants

A wooden pallet manufacturer in Jamesville, N.Y., went up in flames Monday night. Jamesville Fire Department received a call from B&B Lumber Company at 7:30 p.m. The department arrived at the scene along with the DeWitt, Manlius and Onondaga Hill Fire Departments. Due to the intensity and volume of the fire, five additional fire crews were called. According to the Deputy Chief of the Onondaga Hill Fire Department Dante Garofalo, the fire departments had trouble putting the flames out due to not having any fire hydrants on the premises. The lack of water was so extreme, B&B workers had to fill buckets of snow so firefighters could attempt to smother ash piles. This method was used until numerous tankers full of water arrived shortly after, helping with the water supply issues. These tankers were able to extinguish the brunt of the fire. But, seven hours later, the fire still burned.
