VIDEO: More than 24 hours after a massive pileup on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, officials have a better idea on the extent of the damage. General Manager of the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission, Carlton Dufrechou, now estimates between 60 to 70 cars were involved. Twenty four people were taken to the hospital with injuries. All are expected to make a full recovery. “The fog was an element of what caused the crashes. A lot of it was, I don’t mean this negatively toward any individuals, but a lot was due to inattentive driving. Those were preventable,” Dufrechou said. Within just 30 minutes, there were two separate crashes on the Southbound Span, and four on the Northbound Span.
