According to the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency, the East St. Louis Fire Department is responding to a large pallet fire with buildings involved. Nearly 30 agencies from throughout St. Clair, Madison and Monroe counties were called in to assist, including Columbia Prairie Du Pont and Millstadt fire protection districts.
The massive fire began sometime around 2 a.m. Tuesday in an industrial area along South Main Street. The fire could be seen across the Mississippi River in downtown St. Louis. At the scene, 5 On Your Side crews even witnessed the flames spreading to a nearby billboard.
