A single-story pawn shop caught fire early Thursday morning in northeast Austin. The Austin Fire Department (AFD) said its crews responded around 1:45 a.m. to the fire at Action Pawn, located at 805 E. Rundberg Lane by Interstate 35. Once on scene, firefighters said they saw smoke coming from the building with heavy fire inside. Responders said they used a saw to cut down the walls, as security gates prevented easy entry. AFD said it also called two backup firetrucks to the scene because hydrants in the area were not working as a result of nearby construction. Crews utilized other hydrants from several blocks away instead. No injuries have been reported at this time, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
