Crews were battling a large house fire in Independence Township early Thursday morning. The home on Forest Valley Drive, located near the intersection of Clarkston Road and Clintonville Road, caught fire at around 5 a.m. on Aug. 28. According to Independence Township Fire Chief David Piche, neighbors reported to dispatch that they heard an explosion at the home and saw it completely engulfed in flames. Piche said the family was not at home when the fire happened.
