Fueled by high winds, a fire quickly destroyed the Liberty Apartments in Killeen Sunday afternoon. Killeen Fire Chief Jim Kubinski said by the time firefighters arrived it had already begun to spread out of control. Drone video sent to 6 News from That’s IV The Birds, LLC showed exactly what Kubinski described in his news conference. In the video, the flames can be seen burning through the roof of the entire complex. The flames engulfed a large area of storage boxes—approximately 15 yards by 50 yards and stacked three high—before spreading to the Liberty Apartments rooftop. The wind-fueled blaze led to four structures catching fire, three of which were destroyed while one sustained minor damage, Kubinski said. The Liberty Apartments suffered a total loss. Authorities have not confirmed any injuries as emergency crews continue searching the site.
