VIDEO: 19 displaced, 75 crews fight massive North Carolina apartment complex fire; firefighter taken to hospital, 8 units damaged

PHOTOS: Nearly 20 people were displaced by a massive apartment fire in a Moore County town that was so intense it took about 75 firefighters more than an hour to knock down the flames Saturday night, officials said. A firefighter was injured and taken to a nearby hospital but was later released, according to Aberdeen Fire Chief Phillip Richardson. The fire broke out around 6:40 p.m. at the Hawthorne at the Pines apartment at 800 Churchill Downs Dr., Richardson said. Initially, about 50 firefighters were called to the scene and worked on the blaze. Later about 75 firefighters were involved with the flames “knocked down” by 7:50 p.m., he said. When crews arrived, they were told victims might be inside apartments so firefighters entered units to search, Richardson said. “During a search, there was a partial collapse and burning material fell on the firefighter,” Richardson said.
