Retired Indianapolis firefighter reunites with boy he rescued from 1992 apartment fire

VIDEO: When he was a firefighter with the Indianapolis Fire Department, Ike Randolph used to collect newspaper clippings with stories and photos from the fires he fought. He wanted his daughters to see them one day and know what their dad did. A newspaper clipping saved from 1992 always stuck out in his mind. โ€œEvery fireman has had stories like this, of people theyโ€™ve saved that are kind of stuck in their mind,โ€ Randolph said. โ€œIโ€™ve had a lot of runs, but thereโ€™s only two that really stick. This one and another one where a mom lost her three kids.โ€

On March 22, 1992, Randolph responded to a northeast side apartment fire. One person died and five others were injured. Randolph remembers it raining and it being a cold, March Saturday night. Randolph was on a rescue squad at the time and remembers finding 4-year-old Alandous Briggs in his apartment. โ€œI took off my mask and said, โ€˜Hey, Iโ€™m just a regular guy, come on, letโ€™s get out of here, go find your parents.โ€™ So I scooped him up, and we made our way down the stairs,โ€ Randolph said.
