Ohio fire department receives new life-saving equipment

VIDEO: Firefighters save lives every day, and one Lawrence County, Ohio, town has a new tool to help them save even more lives. โ€œItโ€™s called Turbo Draft,โ€ said Matt Jenkins, the Aid Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief. โ€œIts design is to move massive amounts of water force from limited water supply.โ€

Aid Township Volunteer Fire Department members spent the day Monday testing out their new equipment. โ€œIt can move up to 675 gallons a minute with max capacity,โ€ Jenkins said. Their new equipment can potentially save more lives. โ€œItโ€™s going to save so much time,โ€ Jenkins said. โ€œWeโ€™re going to be able to set water aside our trucks where weโ€™re limited on hydrants, and the drive time for tankers to haul water into us.โ€ Turbo Draft is especially important for rural fire departments. It cuts time like Chief Jenkins mentions, but also adds more water supply that they can use.

โ€œItโ€™s very important to us,โ€ Jenkins said. โ€œWeโ€™re limited on three fire hydrants here to cover three townships. We cover all of north eastern Lawrence County, so weโ€™re trucking water from wherever we can get it.โ€ Chief Jenkins and the rest of his staff are hoping more fire departments in the Tri-State area will learn about this equipment and use it to their advantage. โ€œNobodyโ€™s really heard a lot about it other than social media sites and stuff like that,โ€ Jenkins said. โ€œThatโ€™s where we found it and researched it. We thought it would be a great tool. We applied for a grant, and also received some other equipment with that grant as well.โ€
