New fire retardant facility strengthens wildfire response in Northern California

VIDEO: Perimeter Solutions, the company renowned for producing the fire retardant often deployed from aircraft during wildfires, has officially opened a state-of-the-art production facility at McClellan Park in Northern California. This new plant signals a significant advancement in the regionโ€™s wildfire preparedness and response capabilities.

The facility spans 110,000 square feet and boasts an impressive capacity to produce 360,000 pounds of fire retardant. Jeff Emery, President of Global Fire Safety at Perimeter Solutions, expressed pride in the accomplishment during the grand opening. “Welcome to the grand opening of the McClellan Park Perimeter Solutions production plant,” Emery said. “Itโ€™s a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility thatโ€™s been a couple of years in the making.”

This cutting-edge facility does not just benefit California but serves an international purpose. โ€œA lot of people donโ€™t realize that the same material produced here goes to Greece, goes to Australia, and serves all of the United States,โ€ said Bob Roper, CEO of the Western Fire Chiefs Association.

Having a facility of this caliber in Northern California is a major asset in combating wildfires. The proximity of the production site to the nearby airbase ensures quick and abundant access to fire retardants during emergencies. โ€œWe know, with the air base right here, we have an abundant amount of resource retardant for any wildfire here in California,โ€ Roper said.
