A powerful piece of Houstonโs firefighting history now has a permanent home. The Houston Fire Departmentโs Honor Guard uniform is officially on display inside the Houston Fire Museum, symbolizing nearly four decades of dedication, tradition, and sacrifice. The guard formed in 1985, has stood as the departmentโs ceremonial backbone, planning, organizing, and performing at funeral and memorial services for fallen firefighters.
The group also represents the department at parades, public events, and official ceremonies, maintaining the highest standards of respect and professionalism. Houston Fire Department Chief, Thomas Muรฑoz gave praise to the guard and all that they have done in the past, currently and in the future. Muรฑoz became emotional when noting the time the guard will honor him and his time with the department.
The uniform on display features the Honor Guardโs signature dark jacket, white gloves, and cap. Items that carry deep meaning within the department. โWe have been honoring our fallen, the city and all its glory, and today marks the day that now the Honor Guard will be etched in this museum, in history, with this mannequin and this display you see before you,โ said Commander Oscar Pedraza, with the Houston Fire Department Honor Guard.
