Fire station in Texas opens with hose-uncoupling, station tour

VIDEO: When a new building opens, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is often held. At the official opening of Longviewโ€™s new fire station however, the Longview Fire Department uncoupled a red hose. With the hose uncoupling, the City of Longview officially opened Fire Station 8. Longview Fire Chief J.P. Steelman said the new station eight took about a year and a half to build, but about 12 years to plan. He expects it to last over 40 years. โ€œThe station that weโ€™re coming out of, that weโ€™re relocating to this one, was built in 1982, so it has pretty much served its useful life,โ€ Steelman said. โ€œHopefully weโ€™ll get another four decades or more out of this one.โ€
