VIDEO: When a new building opens, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is often held. At the official opening of Longviewโs new fire station however, the Longview Fire Department uncoupled a red hose. With the hose uncoupling, the City of Longview officially opened Fire Station 8. Longview Fire Chief J.P. Steelman said the new station eight took about a year and a half to build, but about 12 years to plan. He expects it to last over 40 years. โThe station that weโre coming out of, that weโre relocating to this one, was built in 1982, so it has pretty much served its useful life,โ Steelman said. โHopefully weโll get another four decades or more out of this one.โ
